Interesting. The build would be easier if there was a picture of the solder side after the cuts and before wires were added. It is a hard to see what is going on beneath the wires. The code of the memory test is interesting also. It does test every location by writing 0 through 255 into each location and reading it back. This actually is not good enough. If any of the data lines or address lines got swapped, this test would not detect it. There is a collection of easy tests, walking ones for instance, that test for shorted data lines. Overall it does look like a fun project for someone that wants to play with more memory. Ah forth, drop dump flush.
