ECB SBC-188

Page history last edited by Douglas W. Goodall 3 years, 2 months ago

The ECB SBC-188 is an ECB single board computer with 80C188 CPU, WD37C65 floppy disk controller, 16C550 UART, 8255 PPI, and DS1302 real time clock.  The ECB SBC-188 is designed by John Coffman.

Working documents relating to this project will be found in the "Board Information / ECB Boards / ECB SBC-188 project" folder under "Pages & Files."  Files that pertain to both the prototype (version 00) and production (version 1) board are in the directory mentioned.

The "Version ..." folders contain board schematics, PCB layouts, and other documentation pertaining to a particular board revision.  When all updates are applied to the version 00 board, it becomes fully compatible with version 1.  Hence, the BIOS software is maintained in the higher level, common, folder.

"Software History" contains old BIOS versions for both boards and old software that has fallen into disuse.  It is retained here strictly for historical purposes.

After looking over the files, it appears to me that the board is just "PC compatible" enough to boot a floppy. The BIOS provides the bottom line services via the usual soft interrupts. So once you build the board, burn the prom, get the settings right... You should be able to boot OS images that don't depend on the full hardware and software architecture of the PC. This is very reasonable, and I look forward to getting mine going ASAP. :-)
